Mitchell is Vice-President of Public Policy at Miller/Wenhold. He advises clients on legislative and regulatory strategies, and helps draft legislation for achieving their policy goals. On behalf of MW clients, Mitch leads coalition efforts to strengthen their legislative priorities and successfully develops and executes congressional outreach plans.
Mitchell grew up in St. Louis, Missouri and attended the University of Missouri-Columbia. While in college, he quickly became involved in Missouri politics and worked as a legislative aide for numerous state legislators from his home district. He later was selected as a Congressional Scholars fellow for Congressman Lacy Clay of Missouri’s 1st District where he provided expertise on healthcare and transportation policy, as well as support for the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform’s IRS investigation in 2013.
After returning from Washington D.C., Mitchell accepted a position at the University of Missouri System’s office of government relations. While there, he assisted legislative efforts for securing capital improvement funding and increasing state appropriations to the university amid tight budget constraints.
In addition to his legislative experience, Mitchell has served as a social media specialist for multiple grassroots organizations, as well as local, state, and Congressional campaigns across the country.
Mitchell received a B.A. from the University of Missouri-Columbia and, later, and MPA from the university’s Harry S. Truman School of Public Affairs. He is currently serving as Director of the National Institute for Lobbying and Ethics.
